Dear Mr. Smith:
Please accept my apologies for the miscount brought to our attention by you regarding
the services we provided to Providence Group, Inc., and the corresponding fee
discrepancies from March 1, 2004 to March 31, 2004. Pursuant to our standard
correcting procedures, we have reviewed our invoicing process in our partners’
weekly meeting. In order to prevent this situation from occurring again, this letter
will clarify our billing and fee procedures.
Many professionals are compensated for the services provided to clients by taking
the time required to complete the work and multiplying it by the appropriate hourly
rate. Our hourly rates range from RMB 1,200.00 (USD $150.00) to RMB 4,000.00
(USD $500.00) per hour, depending on the lawyer’s level of experience. Our policy
is to assign responsibilities in the most cost-effective manner.
Our partners review “work in progress” for each client on an ongoing basis. We
evaluate the need to contact a client regarding any unexpected problems that we’ve
encountered in our research, representation, and other situations, and for which the
time to be incurred may be more than originally anticipated. In most cases, the
additional unexpected time is added to the total engagement cost.

will accept our apology for this misunderstanding. We look forward to continuing
to serve your legal needs.
